For a balanced nutrition and potting soil, two things
are essential, namely EC and pH values. Plants prefer high quality
water in order to flourish. For good quality water, the amount of
calcium plays an important part. Water with a relatively high amount of
calcium and magnesium ions, we call ‘hard water’. Hard water can harm
plants that prefer an acid environment.
EC-values are the values for the electric
conductance of water. If the salinity of water is high, the EC-number
will be high too. The salt concentration inside the plant always needs
to be higher than outside. Because water moves from low to high salinity
and therefore in the direction of the plant.
We express the acidity of water in a pH-value.
It presents the concentration of ions in the water. The lower the
pH-value, the higher the acidity of the water will be. Soil with a
pH-value of seven is neutral, below seven is acid and above is alkaline.
For most potting plants a pH-value between 5.5 and 6.0 is desirable.
Still, it is more important that the value does not fluctuate but
remains stable. If the pH-value fluctuates, than the amount of
nutritious substances fluctuates as well and this will show in the way
the plant grows.
The ideal pH-value of a watergift for
decorative plants is between 5.5 and 6.0. The product PH- can help your
plants to reach this ideal value and to keep them balanced at this
level.
